After many years of admiring other people's Shih Tzus, in 1992 I purchased my own. I named her Shi-Anne creating the name from my childhood pup's name ~ Shane. I wanted something that looked oriental, yet feminine. The name Shi-Anne fit her perfectly.
She was a Beautiful Brindle and White Shih Tzu. That is her in the photo above.
It had been a dream of mine for over 20 years to breed the beautiful Shih Tzu. I had several specifications in mind.
1) The mom and dad would be our own family pets... not kept in kennels and runs outdoors.
2) The puppies would be born in a nice quiet environment and mom would be cared for just as I am when I have a baby.
3) The puppies would not be raised in a crate... they would be raised in the safety of their welping box first, in our bedroom, and then moved to a playpen that mom could jump in and out of to care for them. The playpen being located in a main room of our home. In this way they would interact with our entire family daily.
I have been very fortunate in that I managed a pet supply store that had some wonderfully trained groomers. When I had Shi-Anne they taught me how to properly care for the Shih-Tzu's skin and coat as I grew Shi's coat out to the floor.
Today our Shih Tzu get bathed and groomed weekly. Puppies are taken to the bath as early as 3 weeks old and their feet are played with and nails trimmed on a regular basis. It is very important that a puppy be trained from early on to allow his feet to be cared for and to allow scissors by the face. I do not clip their coats, but take the scissors there and open and close them so they get accustomed to the sight and sound they make. I also run a blow dryer on them to fluff them up and use a professional pet grooming table with nooses to help them get used to the grooming station.
For several hours every day the puppies are allowed to run free with mom throughout the main level of our home and play with our our own children. We also take them outside to explore with mom and for potty breaks. Sometimes they go and we applaud them, but we don't housebreak them... just give them the opportunity when mom is outside to see what all that business is about.

Our puppies stay with mom until they are at least eight weeks old. We want to be sure that they get the best start possible in life. It is really such a short time and they are growing so fast during those early weeks. You will see in pictures what I mean on the following pages.
I hope you enjoy your visit on our site. If you are interested in one of our puppies please feel free to send me an email or fb pm. I will be happy to talk with you about them.
Blessings,
Wendy
